He hailed from China, was illiterate, had less than $200 with him when he landed in his new country, and couldn’t speak English.

And yet he shook hands with 5 different Prime Ministers and became one of the richest men in the world.

He was Tan Sri Lim Goh Tong, one of Malaysia’s (and the world’s) most astounding rags-to-riches stories.

He built a world-class infrastructure in the form of his “impossible” project, Genting Highlands. It was a resort up on a mountain top in Malaysia, more than 6,000 feet above sea level, with the paths leading to it covered by thick trees in a 100-million-year-old forest.

He had a grand vision, so grand that it would take a superhuman effort to see it through.

Regardless, Tan Sri Lim could vividly visualize his mountaintop resort being a thriving and extremely successful one even when everybody else doubted him. His vision kept driving him forward, despite many huge challenges, 6 near-brushes with death and almost financial ruin.

In the process, he attracted all the help he needed to realize his dream. All the labor, ideas, contributions, systems, resources and money.

Whatever he required – he got.

Including his own sheer grit, determination and courage.

And the rest is history. The first Genting Highlands resort was completed in 1971 and it has been developing ever since. It was also awarded Malaysia’s only casino license not long after it was completed, as well as tax incentives (despite it not being qualified for them).

Genting Highlands received 18.6 million visitors from all over the world in 2006. It is also one of the world’s most profitable casino resorts.

Tan Sri Lim passed away of natural causes on 23rd October 2007 aged 90, having lived a full life. He had many children and grandchildren, a fortune estimated at USD$4.2billion and left a huge legacy not only for his family, but for his country as well.

How many educated individuals managed to reach the heights that he, an illiterate, did in such a grand manner?

How did he manage to magically get all the help and resources he needed to make his dreams a reality?

What made all the 5 Prime Ministers shake his hand and give him all the support he needed to get his resort going and developed to this day?

You have to admit that there was (and still is) something truly powerful at work here.

And you would be right.

It’s called the Law of Attraction.

This Law works for just anybody who invokes it by doing the right things.

Tan Sri Lim visualized his dream resort so strongly that he attracted all the help, people and things he needed to make it a reality.

Visualization of your goals and entrenching it fully into your entire being forces your mind to think of ways your goals can be achieved – no matter what the hurdles are.

It’s an extremely powerful technique practised by some of the most successful people in the world.

After all, if JFK can visualized landing a human on the moon and bringing him back alive more than 40 years ago (in 1961), and we made that a reality within 10 years since that vision was born despite the enormous challenges that arose from such a vision…

As a fitting tribute to Tan Sri Lim who had achieved so much within his lifetime through his strong belief, vision and efforts, and as motiviation to the rest of us to experience at least some of the successes he so obviously enjoyed in abundance, a party will be held at the very place he built with his bare hands.
